About JW Cook
My name is JW Cook, and I am running to represent you in the 20th legislative district of Monroe County, New York. I was born and raised in Brockport, NY where I graduated from Brockport High School and began my community involvement at the age of six. I spent five years at the Sweden/Clarkson Recreation Center working as a Summer Camp Counselor and after school care provider. As President of my Class, I brought Brockport High School’s Homecoming Parade to Main Street for the first time in over 42 years.
I earned my Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science from St. Bonaventure University where I put my belief that equity can be achieved through conversation and action to work. I worked tirelessly to foster community and inclusion on our campus. It began on the ground floor of our Racial Bias Education Committee where I worked alongside faculty, staff and administration to institute a campus wide film series targeting issues of diversity and inequality. Through the series, the Equity and Inclusion Committee came to fruition and allowed for student growth and participation in conversations about engendering equality in education and student life.
While working to foster equity and inclusion, I could not forget about the fights that have touched all our lives. As President of my Class, I organized the inaugural Bald for Bucks charity event, raising nearly $10,000 for cancer patient research and programming in Rochester and Buffalo.
I am now serving as the Marketing Coordinator at RE/MAX Titanium and a member of the Brockport Lions Club. After earning my Bachelor’s, I chose to come home as serve the community that built me.
Since returning to Brockport, I have coordinated community events like “Save the Clock Tower” and “Drink and Dance for Diabetes.” These events combined have raised over $22,000 to better the community we are part of every single day. That is why I am running for Monroe County Legislator of District 20.
I am running to represent you. I believe in a local government that supports jobs. I believe in a local government that passes responsible budgets — a budget that creates a safe atmosphere for our children, and effectively combats the opioid crisis that has harmed our community. I believe in a local government that supports initiatives and programs that makes young people want to stay in Monroe County and raise families here.
I am running for County Legislator because I believe that together we can build a vibrant, healthy and safe community. Not only for the 20th District, but for all of Monroe County.
